SEPULTURA | biographie / discographie

formé en : 1984
Sepultura se forme à Beolo Horizonte au Brésil en 1984. Max Cavalera (chant / guitare), Igor Cavalera (batterie), Paulo Jr. (basse) et Jairo T. (guitare) sortent l'année suivante le maxi Beastial devastation, autoproduit et enregistré en deux jours. En 1986, Sepultura enregistre son premier album Morbid Visions.
Le groupe déménage ensuite à Sao Paulo et se sépare de Jairo T. qui est remplacé par Andreas Kisser. Suit en 1987 l'album Schizophrenia qui est distribué dans le monde entier. En 1989, le groupe signe Beneath the Remains sous la direction du producteur death métal Scott Burns. Le titre Inner self est un succès. Pour poursuivre sa carrière, la formation s'installe à Phoenix aux Etats-Unis et enregistre en 1991 l'album Arise qui contient les titres Desperate city, Dead embryonic cells et Arise. Deux ans plus tard, Chaos A.D. paraît et montre les préoccupations sociales du groupe. C'est encore un succès mondial avec les titres Territory et Refuse/Resist. Suit en 1996, l'album Roots qui incorpore des éléments de musiques brésiliennes. Max Cavalera laisse sa place à Derrick Green pour monter Soulfly. Sepultura enregistre Against en 98, qui se vend beaucoup moins bien que l'album de Soulfly. Après trois ans d'absence, Sepultura revient avec l'album Nation, qui sort début 2001. Deux ans plus tard, sort Roorback.
